This document explains how to change your display settings between extended and duplicate modes, and outlines the differences between the two.
Understanding Display Modes
Extended Desktop:
- This mode treats your multiple monitors as a single, continuous workspace.
- You can drag windows across all displays seamlessly.
- This is ideal for multitasking and increased productivity.
Duplicate Desktop:
- This mode displays the exact same content on all connected monitors.
- This is useful for presentations or situations where you want to mirror the display.
Changing Display Modes (Windows)
- Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
- Under Multiple displays, you'll see a diagram of your monitors.
- Select the desired mode:
- Extend these displays: For extended desktop mode.
- Duplicate this display: (or whichever monitor you want to be the primary) For duplicate desktop mode.
- Click Apply and then Keep Changes.
Changing Display Modes (macOS)
- Click the Apple menu () and select System Settings.
- Go to Displays.
- Click the Arrangement tab.
- Select the desired mode from the "Display arrangement" options:
- "Arrange Displays" (unchecked): This typically results in extended desktop mode.
- "Mirror Displays" (checked): This enables duplicate desktop mode.
- Click Apply.
